GLOBAL UNDERWATER EXPLORERS

I’m proud to be an instructor for Global Underwater Explorers (GUE). GUE is a global non-profit organization that founded to support our efforts to conserve and explore the underwater environment. As an educator for GUE, my primary goal is to help my students become comfortable and confident divers in whatever environment they’re interested in. If you’d like to learn more about GUE, please feel free to reach out to me, or to visit https://www.GUE.com/.

FUNDAMENTALS

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

The GUE Fundamentals course is by far GUE’s most popular program. It functions as a gateway into GUE training and it is an excellent way to personally experience what GUE is all about. Some divers use the Fundamentals course as a way to improve on the less-than-optimal training they have received during traditional fast-track entry-level courses. Others see the course as a ticket to participate in GUE projects and activities. Many technical divers and even experienced instructors from other organizations use the course to improve basic skills and gain access to GUE’s cave and tech-training. It is not uncommon to have divers with very diverse backgrounds in the same class, which makes this course completely unique in the diving industry. Everybody will benefit, regardless of their current level of certification or experience. Graduating this course with a pass is something to be proud of, as the quality of a GUE Fundamentals diver is recognized all over the diving world.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The GUE Fundamentals course provides all divers with an opportunity to advance basic diving skills. It provides the non-GUE trained divers (divers who are already certified with another recognized diving agency) with a gateway into GUE training. It is a prerequisite for all GUE courses (apart from entry-level courses, and the Drysuit and Doubles primers).

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Course outcomes include, but are not limited to: GUE equipment configuration and use, trim and buoyancy, propulsion techniques including backwards kick, valve management (the course can be done using a single tank or with a double tank configuration), gas sharing, and SMB deployment. This course will supplement training that divers may have already received and will give them more confidence in their basic skills even if they do not desire to go on for more advanced training. The course also includes the theory and use of nitrox.

PHotogrammetry

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

Modern technology combined with skilled and competent divers is a great mix to achieve unprecedented outcomes from underwater imaging. Meticulous and proper documentation of a dive site or submerged artifacts can be rewarded by a stunning 3D modelling. GUE’s Photogrammetry Diver course is designed to introduce divers to the skills and procedures for using underwater photogrammetry to create digital 3D models.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This course is for anyone who is interested in contributing in an efficient manner to any underwater documentation project and using photogrammetry skills to enhance the outcomes of projects. To benefit from this course the participants must possess basic underwater photography skills and the required photo/video equipment.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Course outcomes include, but are not limited to: basics of photogrammetry, using both still imagery and video; setting up underwater imaging equipment and lights; underwater teamwork and workflow; organization; setting up a workflow in photogrammetry processing software; and creating final 3D models for publishing

Doubles

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

Venturing into more advanced underwater environments is very often related to longer times and greater depths. To be able to safely extend both, divers need to increase their available breathing gas volume and add equipment redundancy. The GUE Doubles Primer is a non-certification course designed to teach divers how to safely and comfortably dive a double tank configuration using proper equipment and techniques.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Anyone interested in making the transition from single tank to doubles will benefit from this class. It is highly recommended to anyone who is intending to take GUE Fundamentals class and who has no previous doubles experience. This training is available for non-GUE trained divers and can serve as a basic introduction to GUE systems.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Course outcomes include, but are not limited to: buoyancy and trim practice, skill refinement, familiarity with the theory and utilization of double tank configuration, GUE equipment configuration, and basic valve management.
